Why the contractor matters
With standing seam, the crew is the product
Two standing seam roofs can use the same metal, the same color and the same panel profile and still perform very differently. The difference is in the hands of the contractor: how the panels were measured and formed, how the clips were spaced, how the seams were closed, and how the flashings were bent around chimneys, skylights, walls and valleys. Those details decide whether a roof stays quiet and dry for decades or starts to tick, stain and leak.
That is why we built this site around one question homeowners in Los Angeles ask us all the time: who should I hire to put a standing seam roof on my house? Our answer is simple. Hire a crew that forms its own panels, installs its own work and holds the right license, then check every one of those claims yourself.

We form the panels
Our own roll former turns coil into panels cut to the length of each run, so long runs go on without end laps and the color matches from panel to panel.

Who you are hiring
A standing seam crew, not a roofing broker
Standing Seam Contractor is operated by Eclipse Remodeling & Roofing Inc, dba Eclipse Metal Roofing. The company has roofed homes in Los Angeles since 2006, works on residential roofs only, and runs its metal work out of a shop in Van Nuys.
Standing seam is our specialty. A typical job starts with a site visit and measurements, moves to a written scope that names the metal, finish, panel profile, underlayment and flashings, and ends with our crew walking the finished roof with you. Between those points you deal with one company.

How a job runs
From first visit to final walk-through, one crew
Site visit
We measure the roof, check the pitch, the deck and the details, and look at access for the crew and the panels.
Written scope
You get a scope naming the panel, metal, finish, underlayment, flashings, tear-off and who pulls the permit.
Roll forming
We form panels from coil on our own roll former, cut to the lengths your roof calls for, and bend the trim to match.
Install and walk-through
Our crew installs, the city inspects where a permit requires it, and we walk the finished roof with you.
Before you sign with anyone
Three checks that take ten minutes
Look up the license
Search the contractor's license number on the CSLB website. Check that it is active, that the classifications include C-39 roofing, and that workers' compensation is on file if they have employees.
Ask who installs
Ask by name who will be on your roof. If the answer is a subcontractor, you are hiring two companies and only signing with one of them.
Ask who forms the panels
Panels formed to length by the installer, or bought pre-cut from a supplier, both work. You should know which you are getting and how long runs will be handled.
Our full list of questions, with what a good answer sounds like, is on our page about how to hire a standing seam contractor. Ask us every one of them.

Questions
Hiring a standing seam contractor in Los Angeles: common questions
What does a standing seam contractor do that a general roofer may not?
Standing seam is a specialty. The panels have to be formed to length, the seams locked or snapped over concealed clips, and every flashing bent to fit the roof. A contractor who does this work every week has the forming equipment, the seaming tools and a crew trained on them. Our guide to how to hire a standing seam contractor lists the questions that show the difference.
Do you serve my part of Los Angeles?
Our shop is in Van Nuys and our crew works on homes across Los Angeles. Call us with your address and we will tell you straight away whether we can take the job. Our page for anyone searching for a standing seam roofer near me in Los Angeles explains how we schedule site visits.
Do you form the panels yourselves?
Yes. We run our own roll former, which turns coils of painted metal into finished standing seam panels cut to the length of each run on your roof. Our page on in-house roll forming explains why that matters for a homeowner.
Do you install other kinds of metal roofing?
Standing seam is our specialty, and Eclipse Metal Roofing also installs corrugated metal roofing and metal roofing that looks like shake, tile or slate.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Our own crew installs every roof we sell, and the company has worked that way since 2006.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
Not an honest one. A standing seam roof is priced from the roof itself: its area and pitch, the number of valleys, skylights and walls, access for the crew, the tear-off, and the metal and finish you choose. We look at the roof first, then give you a written scope.
